Very interesting video to watch. I am one of the lucky turners who gets all of his wood for free and sometimes even paid to cut the tree down. Very nice job making the big bowls very similar. They could sell for more as a set.

Now go back and make small blanks out of the corners by adding a contrasting wood as you glue them into a star shape, then trim off the corners. They make excellent small dishes with interest. And if you embed a rare earth magnet to the foot, they become magnetic dishes which really sell well or make great gifts.

Those figured “heal overs” can be quite a challenge. One never knows in advance how the dead branch inside will influence the final result. Good job bringing out a successful finished project.

You should never use a spindle roughing gouge with wood in bowl orientation. That’s very unsafe as the tool isn’t strong enough and could break catastrophically. Pretty bowl.
